I was having a discussion the other night with some of my fellow networkers regarding recruiting strategies. One of the people I was talking with is HUGE on "warm market" and pre-existing relationships. I couldn't argue with that fact that with this kind of recruiting you will usually get a higher conversion rate. In other words, if during your recruiting efforts you strictly stick to people you already know, then you’ll usually “close” a higher percentage of them than if you’re using other methods. Besides, this IS the concept that network marketing was built on, AND it is f.r.e.e! But the reality (at least in my opinion) is that our industry has gotten to the point where most of us have either exhausted our warm market, or at the absolute least we simply refuse to talk to them for one reason or another. So the question still remains; how does one recruit effectively? In the discussion last night, I asked this group of experienced individuals the same question I've asked for years: "Doesn't it make more sense to have interested people contacting you, as opposed to you approaching random people that probably have a less than 5% chance of being interested?" Think about it...Who would you rather talk to? Person A: A woman standing in line at the grocery store holding her Chiquita bananas and her six-pack of sprite or Person B: A gentleman who is looking in magazines and online for a home business opportunity. I don't think this is a hard choice. I'm choosing person B all the way!!! Here's my point... There are always people looking to "buy" what you're looking to "sell”. The trick is to get in front of those people as often and as effectively as possible. This can be something as simple as a newspaper ad leading to recorded message. The bottom line is that by getting in front of the right people and then pre-screening them, you will be putting yourself in a more effective position because you'll only be talking to interested people! As far as I'm concerned, EVERYONE is NOT a prospect. Don't get me wrong, I am an outgoing guy, but you will NEVER catch me saying: "Excuse me Mam, nice Chiquita Bananas, would you be interested in an opportunity that will make you a lot of money while drinking some juice that' seven healthier than your Bananas?" If I want people to join my business, I'll let the prospects raise their hand first - and then we'll move forward! This way I save my time and I save my sanity ;-)
